The Matt Vanda -vs- John Duddy matchup appears to be a done deal.
The fight is scheduled for Saturday, February 23 at Madison Square Garden in New York. It will be a 10-rounder on the undercard of Wladimir Klitschko -vs- Sultan Ibragimov.
This is an unprecedented step up in prestige for Vanda, whose most heralded past opponents were Sam Garr, Yory Boy Campas, Anthony Bonsante, and Andy Kolle.
Following his most recent fight (an eight-round UD loss to Kolle), Vanda’s career seems to be in question. A win against Duddy would instantly make Vanda a famous name, while a valiant loss would preserve his dignity and relevance. The only really bad result for Vanda would be the expected result: a quick knockout or an uncompetitive loss.
Does this spell the end for Vanda? Is it the beginning of a renaissance for his career? Only time will tell, so stay tuned.
