“Minnesota Ice” Joey Abell defeated ringworn veteran Ratko Draskovic in the second round of their match in Gothenburg, Sweden today.
In a twist peculiar to the Swedish boxing rules, all prizefights in Sweden are limited to twelve minutes, so the Abell-Draskovic fight was scheduled for six two-minute rounds. According to www.boxingscene.com, Abell knocked Draskovic down late in the first and finished him with a vaporizing right hook at :57 of the second.
With today’s result Abell improves his record to 19-1 with 18 kayos, and Draskovic falls to 28-8 with 16 kayos. Abell’s next move is an April 11 date with the underrated Maurice Wheeler (10-11 with 1 kayo) at Philadelphia’s Blue Horizon and a spot in the big April 26 event at Graham Arena in Rochester, Minnesota.
