Andy Kolle has announced his opponent for the June 7 event at Wessman Arena in Superior, Wisconsin. It’s going to be Jonathan Reid, best known for appearing on the first season of reality TV show, The Contender.
The 35 year old Reid, of Nashville, Tennessee, has a flashy record of 34-8 with 19 kayos, though his recent performance has been less spectacular: he’s only 2-7 since the beginning of 2004. Prior to this current cold streak the only blemish on Reid’s record was a 4th-round stoppage against William Joppy back in 2000.
Nevertheless Reid should be a good test for Kolle, having only been stopped four times in a 42 fight career. Reid has shown skill in his 12-year professional career, and he’s no blown-up lightweight, either – he began his career as a light heavyweight, and fought at his highest weight, 179 pounds, in only the second bout of his career.
Kolle explains, “My team called on more than 25 different fighters [for the canceled April 25 event] and they all turned it down, for one reason or the other. One of the fighters, Jonathan Reid, turned it down as well but agreed to face me in Superior Wisconsin on June 7th.”
Kolle has praise for his opponent: “I am happy that Reid took the fight because he is a very quality fighter and will be a nice test to see where I am at in my game.”
