Zach Walters’ opponent for the June 7 event at Wessman Arena in Superior, Wisconsin will be Rubin “Mister Hollywood ” Williams of Detroit, according to a report from editor Jesse Kelley of www.minnesotaboxing.com.
Williams appears to be a suitable opponent for Walters, possessing a record of 29-4-1 with 16 wins by kayo. More importantly, his professional record includes bouts against notable opponents like Andre Ward, Allan Green, Antwun Echols, and Jeff Lacy. Williams is listed at www.boxrec.com as a super middleweight, while Walters is a light heavyweight, so someone is going to have to move.
It’s unclear whether this opponent qualifies in any way to challenge Walters for his WBC African Boxing Union title, but to this point the June 7 event has been billed as a title defense. What is clear is that Walters and his managers have great ambitions, and provided all goes as planned, Williams will make a very useful stepping stone to bigger things.
