Antonio Johnson will face Mexican light middleweight Ricardo Cortes on June 5 in San Jose, according to Boxrec.com. Cortes’ record is 22-2 with 15 kayos, so he ought to provide a stern test for the young man who sometimes styles himself as “The Saint Paul Kid” (7-0 with 3 kayos).
Cortes, it may be remembered, was the opponent who was demolished in the first round by prized prospect Alfredo Angulo back on February 1 at Grand Casino Hinckley.
UPDATE: Within hours of the Fistic Mystic reporting this match, Antonio Johnson told Jesse Kelley of www.minnesotaboxing.com that he had injured his shoulder and would be unable to go through with the fight. “I have been training with a hurt shoulder for over a week and it’s just not a fight I can take with an injury,” said Johnson.
