December 20 Walker Show: Unsanctioned but not Unsupervised

It has come to the attention of the Fistic Mystic that the December 20 pro boxing show at Northern Lights Casino is going to be unsanctioned, though it will not be completely unsupervised.

Jim Erickson, 2nd Vice President of the ABC (Association of Boxing Commissions) says, “The Red Lake Commission will supervise the event, but they’re not a full-fledged boxing commission and they aren’t affiliated with the ABC.  For that reason the ABC is not recognizing the fights as official and they won’t be listed as part of the fighters’ official records on Fight Fax and they won’t be listed on Boxrec.”

Promoter Ron Peterson responds, “The Red Lake Commission has done eight boxing shows.  This is such a gray area…the bottom line is, everybody on this card wants to be on this card, so I told them ‘go ahead, get your own opponents.’  Nobody’s going to get hurt, it’s just a great event that’s a lot of fun and everybody wants to be a part of it.  Everybody wears 12-oz gloves and nobody gets hurt.  Somebody might get stopped, but I’ve never had anyone get hurt.”

Asked whether he would agree that the fights are unofficial and won’t count on the fighters’ records, Peterson responded: “The fights aren’t official but I’m sure they will be counted.  They’ll just be noted as ‘unsanctioned’ fights”
