Being a boxing writer brings with it all kinds of little benefits. One of those benefits is the steady stream of news and information that people share with you in an effort to get some publicity. One of the more interesting tidbits to cross my desk recently came from Jim Erickson, Boxing Commissioner for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe and 2nd Vice President of the Association of Boxing Commissions.
Erickson writes: “The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Department of Athletic Regulation will be hosting an Association of Boxing Commissions Judges and Referees Certification Course on July 10th and 11th at Eddy’s Resort and Grand Casino Mille Lacs, both located on beautiful Lake Mille Lacs. Duane Ford from Nevada will be conducting the judge’s course and Jay Nady, also from Nevada, will be conducting the referee’s portion of the course.”
The cost to register for this course is $55 in advance (before July 1) or $75 on the first day – some meals are included in the registration, but your hotel room is not.
If you ever thought that you would like to get involved in the officiating side of boxing, this may be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
