Connection Suggested Between Head Injuries and ALS Diagnosis

In what may be remembered as the most significant news item of today, it has been suggested that brain injuries suffered by soldiers and athletes may cause symptoms which mimic ALS so closely that sufferers are misdiagnosed as having ALS.

Tomorrow (Wednesday 8-18-10) will see the publication of a peer-reviewed paper in the Journal of Neuropathology and Experimental Neurology, which will lay out evidence and arguments in favor of this conclusion.

It has been reported that the evidence will center on a boxer and two football players, all three of whom were diagnosed with ALS, and all of whom were found on autopsy to have other disorders.
